Black carpet beetles are similar in size to the varied carpet beetle but are solid black and have the last antenna segment elongated. The beetle belongs to the family scarabaeidae and is also referred to as a scarab beetle. This helps them to keep predators away. The larva of the carpet beetle is covered in visible thick brown stripes. One of the identifying features of these large beetles is the single horn on their heads.
